I've always been obsessed with DEFCON badges. The idea that an event gives you something with actual electronics inside, something worth keeping long after the day is over. Paper badges don't survive the bag ride home, let alone the year.
So I built one out of FR4 PCB material. Credit card size, solderable, works as a macropad. Printed using JLCPCB's multi-colour silkscreen process, the artwork goes far beyond what standard PCB manufacturing can do. The result looks a lot better than it sounds on paper.
It debuted at MKIT 2025. People loved it, and within days meetup organisers from across Europe were asking about getting one made for their own events.
The files are open source. Anyone can take them, customise the design, and manufacture their own run. My only suggestion: keep the same form factor. That way people can collect them like Pokémon cards.
Everything you need to make your own is on GitHub. If you're running a meetup and want a custom version with khor.store branding, I'm happy to sponsor it. Just reach out.
